English for Engineering

This course develops the communication skills and specialist English language knowledge of engineering professionals, enabling them to communicate more confidently and effectively with colleagues and customers. Topics cover all the common kinds of engineering (including civil, electrical and mechanical) such as procedures and precautions; monitoring and control; and engineering design. Authentic activities, from describing technical problems and suggesting solutions to working with drawings, make the course relevant and motivating.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe technical functions, applications, specific materials and emphasizing technical advantages in English;

  • Discuss dimensions, precision and shape as well as design phases and procedures in English;

  • Identify and solve technical problems and discuss repair and maintenance in English;

  • Describe physical forces, limitations, capabilities and relative performance;

  • Exchange views on predictions, theories and analyses.
