Translation and Interpretation

This program aims to enhance your practical skills in translation with an intellectual perspective on the discipline of translation studies. Learning through an effective blend of theory and practice, you will develop critical thinking on language use and translation, learn to implement various translation strategies and broaden your understanding of a variety of issues in relation to translation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

• Demonstrate an accurate and faithful translation of the target text;

• Demonstrate the ability to render consecutive interpretation;

• Demonstrate the ability to perform sight translations with little or no preparation;

• Demonstrate the ability to interpret simultaneously;

• Demonstrate accuracy in translation/interpretation at all linguistic levels (phonemic, morphological, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic);

• Differentiate between interpretation and translation and the basic skills needed for translation and interpretation.
